With the fall semester heating up, the coaching staff would like to welcome seven new wildcats to the ski team family. We are excited about the potential that each individual brings to the team and look forward to seeing what everyone can do once the snow starts flying. Each athlete comes from a unique background and plays their own distinctive role on a team that is working hard to become one of the best in the country.

On the Nordic team we have six new skiers joining us this year, two women and four men.

Annika Taylor

Annika Taylor, joins the wildcats from Truckee, CA. She is a 3 time USSA Junior Olympic All-America award winner and a 3 time California state champion. Annika is seeking her undergraduate degree in chemistry. She was drawn to UNH by the campus feel, as well as, the enthusiasm she felt from the team. Annika says her transition to UNH is going pretty smoothly. “I’m loving it, the training, classes and the transition to UNH have been pretty painless, minus the interval block and Ciani’s split squats. I am so pumped for the upcoming ski season, camps, and racing.”

Tristan Ramey

Tristan Ramey, an Anchorage, AK native makes the journey east with two USSA All-America honors, and twice being named to the All-State Team in Alaska. Tristan is enrolled in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, though she has yet to declare a major.

Will Meyer

Will Meyer, from Bozeman, MT comes to Durham a two time member of the Intermountain Junior Olympic Team. Will, a history major, picked UNH because of the academic reputation of the University and the active campus atmosphere. His favorite thing about UNH so far is eating in the dining halls with the team after a solid day of training.

Sam Reed

Sam Reed, comes to the UNH Ski Team from Keene, NH. Sam was member of the 2011 New England Junior Olympic team and has been named to the 2011-2012 New England Nordic Ski Association development team. Sam is majoring in electrical engineering.

Per Lindgren

Per Lindgren, joins the wildcats from Pitea, Sweden. From across the pond Per brings several top-10 finishes in the Swedish junior race series including a second place finish in the relay at Junior Nationals to UNH. Per has chosen to study chemical engineering. Per chose to come to UNH because he felt like the school offered him the best combination of acedemics and athletics. Like some of the other first years Per is really enjoying the food and the team atmosphere at UNH. “The best things about UNH so far are the teammates and the breakfast sandwich station in Stillings!”

Johnny Springer, brings his talents to Durham as a transfer from UVM, but he is originally from Jackson Hole, WY. Johnny is a five time USSA Junior Olympic All-America award winner and a two time Wyoming State champion. He has decided to get his degree in Geology. Johnny is excited to be joining the team after spending last year skiing independently while at UVM. He is also enjoying the new outdoor activities New Hampshire has to offer. “Growing up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming I’ve always loved the outdoors and wanted a similar experience but in a whole new place. UNH has tons of access to things I haven’t been able to do.”

Johnny Springer

The Alpine team adds one new comer to a team that returns all of its NCAA participants from the 2011 season.

Coley Oliver, joins the men’s alpine team from Fort Lauderdale FL, but was a member of the Park City Ski Team in Park City, UT. Last year Coley had an impressive fourth place finish at the Dartmouth Carnival as a high school skier. He is a pursuing his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Coley states that the ski team’s reputation was one of the main reasons he came to New Hampshire. “I wanted to come to UNH for a lot of reasons, mainly because I wanted to be part of one of the best ski teams in the NCAA. I also wanted to experience something new after living in Utah for most of my life.” He is also enjoying the camaraderie of being an athlete at UNH. “My favorite thing about UNH is being an athlete. The bond we share, not only among the skiers but all the athletes, is a really cool thing to be a part of.”
